Able Solar Ltd is a privately owned New Zealand company specialising in off-grid solar power systems and Lorentz solar water pumping solutions. We design, supply and support high-quality renewable energy systems across both the North and South Islands.

Established in Auckland in October 1981, Able Solar has over 40 years of experience in renewable energy, battery storage and remote power solutions. Our reputation is built on technical knowledge, product quality, and long-term customer support.

Our History

Able Solar was originally founded as Able Battery Company Ltd, focusing on the distribution of lead-acid batteries for automotive, industrial and recreational applications.

As demand grew for reliable deep-cycle batteries in remote New Zealand locations such as baches and rural properties, we began manufacturing our own battery solutions using equipment sourced from Australia. The demand quickly exceeded production capacity, leading us to import premium battery systems from established international manufacturers.

As solar photovoltaic technology became more accessible and affordable in New Zealand, Able Solar expanded into renewable energy systems. We supplied early-generation solar modules and supported the growth of off-grid solar installations nationwide.

In 1996, we moved into a purpose-built facility in Waitakere City to support expansion. In September 2016, the business was purchased by Mike Prior and family after more than 15 years working within the company, ensuring continuity, experience and a smooth leadership transition. At that time, the company relocated to Takanini.
